Earth's Dynamic Systems
Earth’s Dynamic Systems is a wonderful book on structural geology that I recently discovered in my university library. Oh, and did I mention you can download it for free off the book’s website? It is filled with incredibly inspiring illustrations of various geological processes. PS. if you like the terminal you can do: `wget -r —no-parent http://www.earthds.info/pdfs/` to get...

Yay! :)
Great news! I’ve found two more fellows to help out! Hopefully we’ll be able to get ourselves into gear and have something new by #screenshotsaturday, but we’ll see how we go. I’ll be sure to let you know more about them at a later date. I just want to thank everybody who emailed me, I was really flattered by the interest. It’s really heartening to know that there...

Looking for help!
Edit: I’ve found somebody! I’m currently on the look out for a passionate developer to help us create our procedural world. It’d be a collaborative role, and I’m very open to new ideas. So if you’re interested in helping and you have some time to spare, be sure to send me an email. Note: It’d be great if you had some experience in OpenGL and GLSL. I’m...

Matt Lenz: Thanks, Brendan. Your game’s looking gorgeous. What kind of gameplay style? Think Minecraft mixed with Proteus and Zelda, with Tolkien, Miyazaki and Hiroshige in there as well. Think of a world that exists despite of the player and is on the whole indifferent to their existence.

Xiaohan and I have aggreed that we want to switch to a game engine to speed up development. We’ve worked out that going with raw OpenGL (with LWJGL) would require us to build an entire engine from scratch which could take forever (life is short). I’ve looked into the C++ libraries I mentioned before, but they’re a pain to set up, and the language isn’t that conducive to...

So yes, I’ve been distracted. I think. Whilst waiting for Xiaohan to port the current basic game to LWJGL I’ve been checking out scene graph libraries and rendering engines just out of interest. Mainly OpenSceneGraph and OGRE. Computer Graphics is a massive subject and it’s really easy to get sucked down the rabbit hole. But on the plus side I’m learning loads and...
